EDITORIAL OPINION
By Lone Wolf

It is a crime

As prevalent as child abuse is. That it is still a reactive crime instead of proactive! When a person of the formative teen years makes a decision to live a gay lifestyle, and your parent says YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE THAT EVIL EXORCISED out of you because being gay is evil! In addition, someone calls children protective services, there is nothing that they can do unless there is a case open. Because there has been no crime committed. It is shame on us. I am not talking about the Pagan community; I am talking about us as a HUMAN community! All of us have seen Child Abuse, weather it is mental, physical, verbal. This even goes to the far point of, what do you do in the summer or winter when you see a child of children in a car while a parent is in a store. Windows halfway rolled up, it is about 79 degrees or even 85? In the winter, you see the same but the temperature is about 22 degrees or 5 degrees. What do you do? I know what I would do and I have done it, call the police! Now is this an insignificant punishment in comparison to being exorcised? I do not think so. When leather straps binding their wrist and ankles, while the child is forced to believe that they are doing what the parent wants by wiggling about uncontrollably. Child abuse is child abuse no matter what the explanation is! In my 20 plus years in Child Abuse it never ceases to amaze me that Children Protective Services in the past 3 decades have done NOTHING to insure that children will not be hurt. Every single agency should have the policy FOR WARNED IS FOR ARMED! Every single report should be investigated; if the report is false then the person that made the report should be brought up on charges! This should be up to and include any forced spiritual path.

This is just my opinion and does not reflect the opinions of anybody involved with The GreenWood Tree Monthly

How old is the 10 Commandments?
By Lone Wolf

The 10 commandments are about 2200 years old. What are the 10 commandments being compared to? You have to remember that Moses was raised an Egyptian Priest. Taught in all matters of Egyptian High Magic. The Negative Confessions Pre-date the 10 Commandments by almost 2000 years! What follows is a comparison of both the 10 Commandments and the Negative Confessions. The 10 Commandments are in Red.

SPELL OF THE MONTH
By Wildmouse

Sun Spell - for health

This Major Arcana card is associated with success, happiness, and with health, vigor, vitality, and robustness.
It is astrologically linked to Fire and the Sun signs such as Leo, Sagittarius, and Aries. It is a
God card, having the robustness and strength of the God. I recommend the use of this card in matters of health and healing properties.

Lunar Phase: New or Full Moon
Gold or Yellow candle
Oil: Plain Olive Oil
Small square piece of fabric, (about 3-4 inches long/wide) color: yellow

Needle and thread (matching color)
Pen
Matches or Lighter
One Tarot card: Major Arcana - The Sun

Dress your candle with the oil. Empower your candle as per your usual method.

Using the pen carve a key word(s) onto the candle. I think the best would be the word "Health,” or if you are familiar with the runic sigils, then use Sigel-the Sun.

Light your candle. Gaze into your Tarot card.

Focus on your desire; See yourself attaining this desire, getting this wish. See yourself doing it! See yourself healthy, strong.
What things would you do when you are healthy?
Visualize those things! You can meditate for as long as you wish.
Say your desire aloud if you wish.
Speak to the card; tell the Sun your desire.

Next, place the card on your solar plexus...the center of your chest.
Imagine the card radiating with light, see it in your mind!
Visualize the rays of the sun entering your chest, feel its warmth as it courses down your arms, up your neck, radiating into your belly, down into your legs. Feel it as it courses in your veins and heals you.

Now, bring the card to your third eye (the center of your forehead) and repeat the procedure: visualize the sun's rays extending into your head, soothing your mind, your spirit, healing any damaged chakras.

Once you have completed this, place the card under the candle.
Let the candle burn down.
Remove the drippings (if any, from the card).
Save any drippings and place them in the fabric, fold over so that the drippings do not fall out and sew the ends.
Take this little bundle and place it in the southern most area of your home. Make sure it will not be disturbed.
Light a good cleansing incense like sandalwood, pass the Tarot card past it, and mentally thank the card for its help.
Return card to the deck.

Your spell should manifest within one full lunar phase (that is within the next New or Full Moon)

Note:
In order to help your Spell deck live a longer life, I would suggest using a dish to place your candle holder on. Place the card under that dish. In this way, no candle wax will melt onto the card.
Paraffin can and will stain the card, thus cutting into its longevity. You want to use the same deck since with continued use you will build up the power inherent in the Tarot deck itself and you will bond more and more.

It is recommended that you use a separate deck for your Tarot spells. Do not use the deck you would normally use for readings. Keep a deck for spells and another for readings. In addition, keep each separate from the other.

From Cathy Wong, N.D., Your Guide to Alternative
Medicine.

There are a variety of herbs, supplements, and food remedies that have been used for centuries to prevent colds and flu, reduce symptoms, or
shorten the duration of colds and flu.
Some of these time-honored remedies are showing promising results
in research studies. Here is a rundown of some of the most popular natural remedies for cold and flu season

Kim chi, Sauerkraut, Kefir, and Yogurt
Kim chi (pronounced kim'-chee) is a Korean spicy fermented side dish that has been getting a lot of press since the BBC published a report by scientists in Seoul, Korea who found that 11 of 13 chickens infected with the avian flu started to recover after they were fed an extract of kamahi.

The key ingredient is likely a natural organic acid called lactic acid, that is also found in sauerkraut, milk, yogurt, kefir (a yogurt-like
effervescent beverage), meat, and beer. Popular probiotic "friendly bacteria" supplements such as lactobacillus acidophilus produce lactic acid.

Although research has not yet shown that fermented cabbage is active against the avian flu, there is research suggesting that lactic acid in other forms activates the immune system against influenza and cold viruses.
For example,
A German double blind, placebo-controlled study involving 477 people found that those who took a daily probiotic supplement had significantly less respiratory tract infections. People who caught the flu had fewer symptoms and shorter fever duration. How to Make Kim chi.

whom it is not for: Excessive intake of raw cabbage and other vegetables in the brassica family may temporarily suppress thyroid function.

Elderberry
The berry extract from elderberry (Sambucus nigra) contains more than one compound that is active against flu viruses. One of the many ways it works is by preventing the virus from attacking cells.
A study found a 50% reduction in the severity and duration of symptoms in adults and children after taking an elderberry extract.
Only commercially prepared elderberry products made from the berry extract should be used, because the fresh leaves, flowers, bark, young buds, unripe berries, and roots contain cyanide and can result in cyanide poisoning.
Health food stores carry elderberry juice, syrup, and capsules suitable
for adults and kids.

Ginseng
The herb ginseng, used in Asia for over 2000 years, made headlines recently after a double-blind placebo-controlled study published in the Canadian Medical Association Journal found that a ginseng extract reduced the number of upper respiratory infections by 25% during a four month period.
The study involved 323 adults. The treatment group took two 200 mg capsules of a ginseng extract every day for four months and reported reduced symptoms, duration of infections, and infection recurrence.
Although there are several types of ginseng, this study used North American ginseng (Pan ax quinquifolium). Although North American ginseng is not as stimulating as Asian ginseng (Pan ax ginseng), it can cause insomnia and worsen anxiety in some people, especially when it is combined with coffee or tea.

Whom it is not for: Ginseng can have hormonal effects that certain people should be cautious about.
Some studies suggest that ginseng can boost estrogen levels, so it is on my list of unsafe herbs for women with breast cancer.
Ginseng should also be avoided by people taking blood sugar medication
or antidepressants known as MAO inhibitors, by children, people with high blood pressure, or by pregnant or nursing women.

Astragalus
Unlike ginseng, astragalus does not come with nearly as many caveats. The dried root of astragalus is a popular ingredient in traditional Chinese herbal formulas. It is now used in the United States to strengthen the immune system and prevent colds and flu. Herbalists recommend it as an immune tonic for people who tend to catch colds frequently.
Preliminary research has shown astragalus can stimulate immune function in humans.
Astragalus can be found in capsule form at health food stores or
as a dried root in Chinese herbal shops and some health food stores. Because of its mild taste, the dried root can be added to soups. The dried root is light yellow and the size and shape of a tongue depressor. A typical daily dose is 9 to 15 g of the dried root, which equals about 3 to 4 slices.
Traditionally in Asia, people took astragalus soup once a week throughout the winter.
The dose is individual, and people with increased exposure or compromised immune systems may require more.
How to Make Chicken Soup with Astragalus.

Whom it is not for: Herbalists say avoid astragalus if you are already sick.

Ginger
A cup of hot ginger tea is invigorating and is a great cold fighter. Ginger contains compounds called sesquiterpenes that have been found to be active against rhinoviruses, the most common group of cold viruses.
Ginger is also a diaphoretic, meaning it fights colds by gently raising body temperature and promoting perspiration. How to Make Ginger Tea.

Garlic
Garlic is a natural cold remedy that has stood the test of time. Garlic contains a bacteria-fighting compound called allicin, making it helpful for preventing secondary bacterial complications of colds and flu such as pneumonia, sinus infections, and middle ear infections (called otitis media).
It has also been used as a natural anti-viral against influenza viruses.
Common way herbalists recommend taking garlic for colds and flu is as a tea, by crushing a clove of garlic and adding honey, lemon, a tiny pinch of cayenne pepper, and adding hot water.
Garlic oil eardrops are also a popular natural remedy for middle ear infections in children.

Who it's not for: High doses of garlic can prolong bleeding time, so prolonged intake isn't recommended for people taking prescription
blood-thinners, moderate to high doses of vitamin E, garlic, gingko, or natural blood-thinners, or 14 days before or after surgery.

Eucalyptus Steam Inhalation
Steam inhalation with eucalyptus oil can help to clear crackly coughs, nasal congestion, throat infections, and cold and flu symptoms.
It works by thinning the mucus in the respiratory tract, relieving congestion, and increasing local circulation. Eucalyptus oil also has a toxic effect on a variety of respiratory tract bacteria.
How to Do a Eucalyptus Steam Inhalation.

Zinc Lozenges
Zinc lozenges have been found to reduce the duration and severity of colds, decrease the number of colds over the year, reduce the use of medication such as antibiotics, and diminish coughing, headache, nasal congestion, sore throat, and other symptoms.
It is still not certain whether it corrects a zinc deficiency, kills viruses, or both.
Studies have typically used a dose of at least 13 mg of elemental zinc per lozenge, starting immediately after the onset of cold symptoms. They have also found that lozenges made with zinc gluconate seem to be most effective, and that the lozenges should not contain citric or tartaric acid, sorbitol, or mannitol, because they can decrease the
effectiveness.
The lozenges were generally taken once every two hours for the duration of cold symptoms. Possible side effects include unpleasant taste and nausea.

Echinacea
Echinacea is a popular herb used to reduce the symptoms and duration of the common cold. Last year, Americans spent an estimated $155 million on Echinacea, according to the Nutrition Business Journal.
Although some recent studies have cast doubt on Echinacea’s effectiveness, herbalists say that those studies were flawed and did not use the right doses or types of Echinacea.

Herbalists often recommend a total daily dose of three or more grams of Echinacea per day at the first sign of cold symptoms. It is usually taken in divided doses, with a dose every 2-3 hours. After one to two days, the dose is usually reduced and continued for the following week.

Vitamin C
Back in 1968, Linus Pauling, Ph.D., winner of two Nobel prizes, postulated that everyone has differing needs for vitamins and some need amounts higher than the Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDAs).
He also asserted that 1,000 mg of vitamin C could reduce the incidence of colds by 45% for most people. Since then, research studies have shown that vitamin C can prevent colds, reduce cold symptoms, and enhance immune function.
Vitamin C in high doses can cause loose stools and gas in some people. Although most will not notice these side effects at 1 g a day when taken in divided doses, it can occur. Some supplements also contain beta-carotene and vitamin E, vitamins that have also been found to fight colds and flu.

DIVINATION CORNER
Vibrational Imprints
Psychometry Contributed by Cindi/Epona’bri
Because our bodies exude energy, we leave behind a vibrational imprint each time we touch or live in close proximity to an object. These imprints, which may be positive or negative memories, emotions, or impressions, can become part of the history of an item. Like you, the objects you encounter have stories to tell. Psychometry is the natural art of reading an object's history about the people and events it has encountered. The objects we associate with are by no means silent bystanders. A house in which a tragedy has occurred may feel cold or silent, while handling a much-loved toy may make you feel good. It is widely believed that all human beings possess psychometric abilities. All objects vibrate at specific frequencies, and psychometry asks only that one tune in to those frequencies.

It is common to learn the art of psychometry by using items such as jewelry or a watch, because these objects spend much of their time in close physical proximity to its owners. Information sensed using psychometry usually has to do with an object's owner and may be related to a location, a feeling, or an event. Emotions tend to be easier to sense, though it can take time and diligence to perfect your psychometric talents. To exercise your psychometric skills, relax and sit in a quiet place with your palms facing upward. Have a friend place one of their treasured possessions in your nondominant hand. Let your mind wander until you receive any impressions. Finally, relate what you have seen, heard, or felt.

By simply by holding an object in your hand or putting it to your forehead, you can sense an object's past and vicariously experience the emotions, sounds, tastes, scents, or images that have transpired around it thus far. While psychometry is most often performed on small objects intimately connected to its owners, it is possible for humans to leave an imprint on a large object like a home or automobile and to receive impressions from these objects. Once you know an object's story, you can release it of its memories or marvel at the wealth of information cradled within.

THE ORACLE
We all know that the government local and state officials do not believe in what we do or what we believe in. With that being, said lets test our abilities.

Last, months Question was: Will the next President of the United States be a Democrat or Republican?

Lone Wolf: My pendulum says that there will be a democrat in the Presidential office next election. There is going to be a BIG face change in the office. My pendulum says that Senator Clinton will be our next President.

FROM THE UPI
2012 COULD BE THE YEAR IT ALL CHANGES
COMMENTARY: SHOOTING DEAD HORSES
By JEAN-CLAUDE GERARD KOVEN
ReligionAndSpirituality.com
RANCHO MIRAGE, August 28 (UPI) — A few nights ago my wife, Arianne, asked why I am taking so seriously the myth about the winter solstice of 2012 marking the end of the world as we know it. Although I gave the question my best shot at the time, all I got in return was a quizzical look and a shrug. I then promised to pull my thoughts together and make this the subject of my next column.

December 21, 2012 is a date that has been literally set in stone - it is the last date chiseled into the Mayan calendar. It is spoken of in the legends of other traditions as well and, according to some recent material I have been reading, has been part of the arcane knowledge of civilizations stretching back to Atlantis and Lemuria.

Apparently, some ancient people were privy to knowledge that remains largely unavailable to the majority of us today - even though we are the ones destined to live through this remarkable date. As one who has followed this subject for a number of years, I can add that the level of "chatter" - to borrow a term from the CIA - seems to be increasing at an impressive rate. Some of the latest material to cross my desk stopped me dead in my tracks.

Should we treat the predicted demise of our civilization with disdain or with riveted attention? This question would not be so challenging if the prophecies were backed by verifiable scientific process. Thanks to modern-day advances in our understanding of the Earth's orbit, we can predict a total eclipse of the sun on November 13, 2012. We can even tell within seconds precisely when and where this event will occur.

But when it comes to an event like the end of the world, science can't help us; the forces in play have yet to be discovered by classical academia.

Thus on this matter we are left to our own devices. All of us must work out a response as best we can. However, if there is any truth to the story, our stance - the biggest wager we ultimately make - regarding this issue is arguably the most important of our life. As C. S. Lewis, the celebrated author of "The Chronicles of Narnia", once said about his decision to embrace religion: "Christianity, if false, is of no importance, and if true, of infinite importance. The only thing it cannot be is moderately important."

There are several things to take into account before placing your bet. The first is to understand what is meant by "the end of the world." It clearly does not mean the planet will be destroyed, for that would take away all options in a single stroke, and the entire issue would be moot. That's not what the seers of the past were trying so hard to tell us. They were warning us of something entirely different - more like an abrupt shift in the direction of one's life.

Just as today's astronomers have a more expansive perspective on outer space than Galileo and Kepler did, so those throughout history who have been able to view earthly events from a cosmic point of view have had a broader understanding than most of us, of the narrative of our planet through time.

To illustrate, imagine that you are observing a steadily accelerating car from a helicopter several thousand feet above a three-lane highway. You can clearly see the road stretching to the horizon. Looking ahead, you notice that the road goes over a small rise and comes to a sudden fork where the lanes split sharply apart. Because the fork is hidden from the driver's view until the last instant, there will be no time for him or her to change lanes before the road divides.

If the car is in the left lane, it must take the left fork; if it's in the right lane, it must go right. If it's in the center lane, it will crash into the dividing barrier. Those are the only alternatives. Based on the car's speed, you can calculate the precise instant it will arrive at the point of no return. How would you alert the driver to the imminent danger?

Such has been the dilemma of the cosmic seers. What is most compelling about their warnings is that many different visionaries have delivered the same message even though they apparently had absolutely no connection with each other. In other words, different seers throughout history have seen the same events coming to a head at exactly the same moment in linear time.

To carry the analogy further: Each of us is the driver of our own car. Since we have free will, we can opt to switch lanes at any time before reaching the fork in the road. According to the received teachings, the choice is simple: you can dedicate your life to the service of self, in which case you attempt to dominate and control others to gain personal power, or you can be in service to others, focusing each thought, word, and deed for the benefit of another being.

The first choice (service to self) would put your car in the left lane; the second choice (service to others) equates to the right lane. Opting for neither keeps you locked in the center lane.

The teachings also tell us the consequences of each choice. The Earth, itself a sentient, conscious entity, has already chosen the right lane. Those of us who make the same choice will stay with her and move into the next density, or vibrational level of experience, which many call the golden age of love and peace.

Those who choose the negative path (service to self) will be moved to a new planetary home where they can perfect the art of control. The beings who opt for neither fork will simply recycle the entire present human experience, beginning as pre-humans who are subject to being preyed upon and controlled by those beings who opt for the negative path.

Before dismissing this as pure metaphysical mishmash, I suggest you consider the words of Blaise Pascal, the renowned French mathematician and philosopher who applied decision theory to the question of the existence of God. The result was the famous Pascal's Wager, which likens the matter to a yes/no bet - only instead of money, you are risking your eternal soul.

According to Pascal, there are two propositions: God exists, and God does not exist. (Notably, Pascal understood God as the Christian God depicted in the Bible, which provides some information about God, but attempts no proof of his existence.) Pascal proposed that before placing your bet, you should consider the four possibilities:

1. If you choose to believe in God, and if God exists, you go to heaven: your gain is infinite.

2. If you choose to believe in God, and if God doesn't exist, your loss is finite and therefore negligible.

3. If you choose not to believe in God, and if God doesn't exist, your gain is finite and therefore negligible.

4. If you choose not to believe in God, and if God exists, you will go to hell: your loss is infinite.

Pascal's notes, which appear in his unfinished treatise "Pensées", wrap it all up neatly: "Let us weigh the gain and the loss in wagering that God is. Let us estimate these two chances. If you gain, you gain all; if you lose, you lose nothing. Wager, then, without hesitation that He is."

I suggest applying the same logic to the possibility of a major shift in 2012. We can only assume that the information is either true or not true. And all four of Pascal's options apply. For me, the only course of action that resonates with my inner being is to act as if the proposed events and are accurate.

This is similar to having a physician tell you that you have only six months (or in this case six years) to live. Many people who have received such dire news have managed to not only live the most present and exquisite six months of their lives but, because of the palpable shift in their lifestyles, some even reversed their medical condition. The predictions for 2012 are, as it were, giving us just a few more years to live. We can cower through them in fear and denial, or we can accept this as an invitation to live more fully and purposefully than we ever have before.

In my own case, the consequence is that an overriding thought now drives my every waking moment: how can I further help to shift the consciousness of humanity? These words barely capture what I truly feel. There is so much more I want to convey, but like my six-and-a-half-billion fellow travelers on this planet, I am still learning to use the language of the heart.

"The Wicker Man" unintentionally funny
Fri Sep 1, 2006 7:50pm ET
The Wicker Man
By Frank Scheck
NEW YORK (Hollywood Reporter) - Far more ambitious and stylish than most of today's horror crop, Neil LaBute's remake of the 1973 U.K. cult classic "The Wicker Man" unfortunately still falls far short of its mark.
Unlikely to inspire a passionate following similar to the original, the film, which opened Friday without screened in advance for critics, ultimately induces more titters than dread.
LaBute has long explored the relationship between the sexes in his work, and he has infused this version of the story -- about a policeman in search of a missing little girl who travels to a remote island populated by a perverse pagan society -- with a feminist touch. Replacing the original's Christopher Lee as the leader of the clan is Ellen Burstyn, who presides over a female-dominated population in which the men are essentially the worker bees.
The film begins creepily enough with a strikingly staged pretitle sequence in which Edward Malus (Nicolas Cage), a California motorcycle cop, watches in horror as a mother and her little girl are incinerated in their car after a crash. The emotionally fragile cop is thus more vulnerable to an urgent message from Willow (Kate Beahan), the fiancée who dumped him years earlier. Writing from a remote island called Summersisle in the Pacific Northwest, she begs him to help her find her missing daughter.
Arriving on the island after great difficulty, he finds a strange agrarian society dependent on its harvesting of honey. The women, all addressed as "Sister," treat him with frostiness and suspicion, while the men are strangely silent. He encounters obstacle after obstacle while attempting to find the girl, nearly dying from drowning and bee stings in the process. Ultimately, he discovers that the reason for his presence on the island has more sinister ramifications than he possibly could have imagined.
Director-screenwriter LaBute is unable to invest this strange gothic material with the requisite degree of menace. A more accomplished stylist might have pulled it off, or possibly the film might have worked as a delirious black comedy. The filmmaker goes somewhat in the latter direction, abetted by Cage's expert slow-burn reactions to the bizarre situations he encounters. But the film, which eschews the eroticism and religious subtexts of the original, eventually lapses into unintentional humor, with such lines delivered by the actor as "Something bad is about to happen, I can feel it" (uttered after about 100 bad things already have happened) and his warning one woman to "Step away from the bike" inducing giggles. By the time of the intended horrific climactic scene, which includes Cage in a bear suit and Burstyn in face paint looking like Braveheart, things have gone irretrievably downhill.
It's too bad because for a good part of its running time, "Wicker Man" exerts a real fascination. It also boasts terrific production values, including beautiful widescreen cinematography, a suitably eerie score by Angelo Badalamenti and creepily effective performances from supporting players Frances Conroy, Molly Parker, Leelee Sobieski and Diane Delano.
End credits include a dedication to the late musician Johnny Ramone, who apparently sparked Cage's interest in a remake.
